Criterium Cycle races Saturday November 7th 2009
The Byron Bay Grand Prix criterium is part of the double cycling event weekend with the SOL Breads Rainbow Ride [Byron to Currumbin]cycle challenge on sunday. The criterium is set in a beautiful location in Byron Bay, just minutes away from the beach and bay offering scenic views of Julian Rocks, the Lighthouse and beyond. A great cycle race and spectator course where you can see the action unfold on a fast 800 metre course.
Events: Criterium cycle races: A/B/C/D grade races
This criterium cycle race features relentlessly high paced racing on a short closed loop course that gives spectators plenty of access to the action. Depeche Cycling promotions and the Byron Bay cycling club are pleased to bring you the Byron Bay Grand Prix.
Start/finish: Centennial Circuit Byron bay
Course: 800 metre, Smooth fast surface.
Events program and format: Registration opens at 11.00am, Centennial Circuit
Race program 1.00pm - 5.00pm.
Warm up 1.00pm - 1.30pm
D Grade race: 1.30pm: 25 minutes + 3 laps Age group: 13 years + men and women This race is for D grade licensed riders.
Womens race: 2.00pm: 40 minutes + 3 laps. Age group: 15 years + women This race is for Women licensed riders with racing experience C Grade race: 2.15pm: 35 minutes + 3 laps Age group: 13 years + men and women This race is for C grade licensed riders.
B Grade race: 3.00pm: 45 minutes + 3 laps. Age group: 15 years + men and women This race is for B grade licensed riders. Seniors, Juniors, Masters and Vets men and women with racing experience.
A Grade/Senior Open/Elite race: 4.00pm: 55 minutes + 3 laps Age group: 16 years +. This race is for A grade licensed riders. Elite/Senior/junior riders men and women with road racing experience.
Women Note: A womens only combined A/B race has been added to the program. If we dont get a minimum of 20 women entered. The women entered will race in either B or C grade.
Juniors Note: You will be subject to a roll out to check gears are correct. Juniors will have a seperate start.
Race rules: All riders must be licensed with Cycling Australia or UCI international, one day licenses are permitted ($33) in the D/C and B grade races. We are racing rain or shine. 100 rider field limit per event. Any riders Lapped will be pulled out. For riders who have a mechanical or crash, the free lap rule applys until 3 laps to go. Bring your spare wheels for the wheel pit. Any protests must be lodged with the race officials in writing within 30 minutes of the given race. Riders will be pulled or disqualified for dangerous riding or offensive behaviour, on or off the course. The race director reserves the right to pull lapped riders, combine fields and to change the race program as is necessary.
Attention! The course is completely closed at all times 1pm - 5pm (but please be aware of possible traffic and changes in race schedules).
Registration: Opens at 11am Centennial circuit. Pickup your numbers and late register up to 30 minutes before your event starts. You may be asked to sign a waiver at the registration table.
Safety/Support: Everyone must wear a helmet, ride a safe bicycle and obey all marshals and organisers instructions. Paramedical personal , mechanics will be on hand for rider support.
Directions to the start: Coming in towards Byron bay from the Motorway on Ewingsdale rd turn left into Bayshore drive (BP station), then left into Centennial circuit. Coming from Byron bay Town on Ewingsdale rd turn rght into Bayshore drive (BP station), then right into Centennial circuit. Parking outside of the circuit please.
